Blog
Hello again, it has been a while between blogs and I've been busy growing a baby!
I am now 8 & 1/2 months pregnant, feeling really great and very excited to be welcoming a new little being into the world very shortly...
I'm really looking forward to the birth and have been doing a lot of preparation for it. This whole process has really taught me that the female body is built for birth, nevertheless in this day and age most babies in our modern affluent cultures are not being born as nature intended. Women and the birth process are being interferred with and homogenized by people who lack understanding of this natural process due to disconnection from their bodies and its innate abilities, fear and the medicalisation of birth. Fortunately I have been blessed with amazing midwives and doulas to guide me through this process.
This is me a couple of month's ago in the Southern Highlands where I did a calm birth workshop, which was a really great experience and education in just how amazing our bodies are when we know how to surrender to them. Human Design is about being the passenger in your body and you actually have to be in your body to be a passenger, not stuck in your head, trying to work it all out mentally.
Birth is a strenuous event, whatever way you look at it. If you run a marathon, you prepare and train for it, you don't just go and do it, and birth is no different. The body needs to be prepared.
I've been having great fun with all the preparations, among other things, I have been doing belly dancing for birth and some prenatal yoga to help prepare my body for birth. It is an incredibly enriching experience learning free flowing movements that nurture both me and baby, and which will also allow me to be able to find comfortable positions during the birthing process. Have a look...
This whole experience has brought me to feel there is a need for women to be educated as to how amazing our bodies really are, as through my experience of pregnancy I have come in contact with a lot of women convinced that their bodies are poorly made to give birth. When you understand how perfect your innate intelligence is, and you know how to work with it, instead of against it, the body is an amazingly complete chemical factory that brings in all of the appropriate hormones at the exact right timing to fascilitate the ease of birth. Women have been giving birth since the dawn of time and when you surrender to the body, you truly get to be the passenger. As the author and midwife Ina May Gaskin puts it, "Your body is not a lemon!"
The other thing that I find really fascinating is how the baby's innate intelligence is also fully functioning and knows exactly what to do from the word go. Have a look at how amazing a new born is doing breast crawl... finding its own way to the breast straight after birth.
We humans really are miracles!!
See you next time,
Best wishes
